Shrinking the Footprint

The Church and Climate Change Conference 11 June 2009 Lambeth Palace

More than 100 delegates from nearly every diocese attended the day chaired by the Bishop of London Richard Chartres with input from a range of experts including Government minister Joan Ruddock MP (Department of Environment and Climate change), the Carbon Trust, AECOM consultants and diocesan officers.

Bishop George Browning from the Anglican Communion Environmental Network, Charles Reed International Development Secretary and Stephen Bowler deputy head of Cathedral and Church Buildings Division (both from the Archbishops' Council) also spoke and there were presentations from CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management) who sponsored refreshments, Natural England and the Environment Agency.

Most presentations are available below (MS Powerpoint format) with a summary of introductory remarks/challenges from the Bishop of London (plus the full text of his speech), Joan Ruddock and others (including the Q&A session) with helpful links and resources used by some speakers. New toolkits and resources with energy saving tips and guidance for the CofE's churches, cathedrals, schools and clergy homes are now available on this site and were unveiled on the day. If there is anything specific you would like to know as a follow-on do not hesitate to contact Rachel Harden in Communications at Church House (rachel.harden@c-of-e.org.uk)
